Dear Why Team member,
We’re already into the last month of 2024, the year we’ve aspired to become More than ever before.
I hope you took the opportunity last week to be grateful for all, yes, all that this year brought you, all the joys and all the lessons. I hope you did stop to celebrate your success thus far.
You must have been successful in at least one area of your life.
As you consider this last month of the year, what will you focus on: your strengths or your weaknesses?
Will you focus on your strengths for even more empowerment, or will you focus on your weaknesses that can weaken your resolve? Paraphrasing Edison, if we could see all that we are capable of, it would astound us.
Allow me to remind you that our greatest battle is always within our mind - we are what we think. We largely judge what is impossible within our mind and live out our self-imposed limits to give our thoughts validation. As Henry Ford so poignantly put it: "Whether You Think You Can or Can’t, You’re Right.”
Just as I’ve shared over the years, many throughout history encourage us to sow positive seeds in the vastness of our mind, cultivate them with the heart and see them with our eyes. We will reap from the garden of our mind what we have sown. And from that which was planted prior to our awareness that we are the gardener…we have choices, choices to shine our light of attention on that which bears fruit, or on that which does not.
Six years ago, one of my good friends, a man who consistently breaks through limits, an accomplished athlete and surgeon, gave me an awareness that was “on fire”; He called it the Mind-Menu. Here is the text he sent me out of a discussion about coaches - his emphasis was on the coach within:
"You don't really need to see the full picture. Do you know the full menu at your favorite restaurant? Or do you know what you like to eat there? Find some good things in your head and stick with that, not really caring about all the stuff on the mind-menu that you don't like. Then when you get tired of your favorite dish, look around the menu for something different, knowing that it will have changed since the last time you looked at it."
How about this "food" for thought? How much of our potential for a great meal is spoiled when we focus on what we don't like rather than on what we do like?! And how true that the menu changes. Are we not the cooks in our own mental kitchens?
So go ahead, start planting good and positive seeds to end this year on the Best note to Revive and Thrive in 2025.
Continue to tend to those seeds and grow them until they become your favorite thing on the menu; grow them so much until your cup overflows. It only matters when we agree from within. Regardless of what we hear from without, choosing to take the high road, fueling what is best within us, is what will produce great results.
Be resilient!
Acknowledge your weakness only to get better, as focusing too much on the low road, you may become weakened by your limiting thoughts.
Dr. Kevin Elko says it well: “Resiliency does not mean returning to your original form, it means returning to a better form. And if we’re really, resilient, every time we meet us, what we must do is magnify what’s good in us and defeat the worst in us.” We are what we think about and what we choose to think is, of course, always our choice.
Connect with your higher self to achieve higher results. Especially around the holidays, be mindful of what you feed your body and mind.
Eat that which best fuels you now! Observe the course of your life and grab hold of all that you have become, finding meaning in the lives you have touched and will touch through your perseverance.
We tend to remember more the pains of life than the joys of living. With effort, friendly empowering thoughts about ourselves can grow in the face of our own self-criticism. And don’t embark alone on this journey. Sheryl Sandberg noted in her book Option B:
“In prosperity our friends know us, in adversity, we know our friends.”
Look for the true friends around you that can, like my friend I cited above, lift you up even when you’re already high up there; friends and loved ones that can assist and encourage you.
Shine the light of your awareness on the empowering seeds you have sown, and you will reap possibilities that will astound you. Serve up the best for yourself and be more of what the world needs now, and no doubt, you’ll be on a great path to end 2024 better than any year before.
Make it a great week,
Steve Luckenbach
