Dear Why Team member,
I hope this week’s message finds you well and encouraged. Thank you for regularly investing your valuable attention to this blog! It is my hope and prayer that these blogs serve you - the weekly discipline of writing for you certainly serves me.
Thank you
To continue the exciting theme of becoming more in ‘24, let us consider even more where we “pay” attention.
Our attention is our life’s currency. It is not unlimited and extremely valuable.
Are we getting a good return on the attention we pay?
At this writing, I am on a flight home from Dallas, where I had the opportunity to speak over the past three days to three amazing audiences - Dallas is a special place. The opening theme of my talks was on the importance of intention - being more intentional. If we do not plant the acorn, it will never become an Oak. Consider the lost potential if not planted.
ABC: Always Be Cultivating!
Cultivating what? Ourselves!
How are we cultivating ourselves to better receive seeds of insight, seeds of opportunity? Remember that old saying, “the harder I work the luckier I get”?!!
To become more in ‘24, let’s consider more the writing down of our intentions. Simply write these words down on a sheet of paper or inside your journal:
I want to become more in 2024.
Then note more of what you want:
More present, more enthusiastic, more purposeful, more fit, more grateful.
Let your eyes see what your hand is writing. Plant your intentions with hands, eyes, mind, and spirit - going that next powerful step from contemplating to planting.
Once planted, what soil nurturing steps can you take?
Ben Franklin said, “pour your purse into yourself, it is the wisest investment you can make”.
The wisest?
Isn’t it wiser to invest in stocks, bonds, and real estate? Not according to Ben Franklin. Consider Ben’s output during his lifetime - absolutely off the charts. Now consider his input, into himself, his daily disciplines: pouring his purse, his money, his time, his energy, into developing himself - cultivating himself to be the soil to best nurture and grow his seeds of insight. Seeds that grew into amazing trees that still bear fruit for all of us today.
Who might you hire that could be good fertilizer to the dreams you aspire? Imagine if you could partner with Ben Franklin - or anyone who has gone before and learned so much more. The investment in mentors and coaches is an investment in our self. We become more valuable to our self and others the more we invest in ourselves. Collaborating is cultivating!
Cultivating the mind is preparing the mind for seeds that will come our way. It is less about finding opportunity and much more about being prepared for it when it arrives.
“Fortune favors the prepared mind”
-Louis Pasteur
This week and beyond consider asking more ‘why’ questions in your cultivating efforts. Collaborate, Ask, Listen, Learn, and Grow. Always be a student - keeping your soil soft and receptive. The know-it-all rarely grows at all as their soil has become hard and unreceptive.
To become more in ‘24, consider writing down your intentions, visualizing them and cultivating more through collaboration - nurturing and preparing the soil that is you to grow more in ‘24. Our BEST YEAR EVER!!
Make it a great week!
