The Trade of your Lifetime, will be your Life Time
Dear Why Team member,
I hope this week’s message finds you well and making better trades.
Maybe no other insight has served me more this year than ‘Becoming More in ‘24 by Making Better Trades.’ I cannot see how this will not be a theme I live by for the rest of my life.
As you face a new day, a new moment, make no mistake, your most valuable currency is your life currency- your life time, the time you are alive. Every moment you pay attention, notice even more to what you are paying your valuable attention to - and is the trade you’re making, worth the price?
Until we elevate the priceless value of our limited life time of attention, we will often make bad trades. We will be buying with our attention that which absolutely is not worth the trade. Without more consciousness to the trades we make every day, we will make bad trades and get bad returns. Sure, we can learn from every bad trade, but this message is born from that learning.
When I was going through my divorce, I was beyond hurting, I was completely destroyed – and, as I suffered - I noticed I was suffering all the more by the way I was thinking, by where I was placing my thoughts. I reminded myself often that bitterness is a poison we drink to “hurt someone else” - bitterness was only hurting me. I was making a very bad trade with my most precious commodity, my life time. The point here is not blame, he said, she said, this is about our own personal choices, the trades we are making with our time. Are we paying attention to that which is positive and lifting or that which is dark and destructive? The choice is ours to make.
Today, I am very grateful for the entire journey, I have a wonderful relationship with my children and have grown to be, I think, a more present and loving father.
Where are the diamonds in the ashes?
I have the kind of faith that believes every cloud contains a silver lining. When I pay more of my valuable attention to mining that lining rather than whining - my life has only grown richer in every way.
To become more in ‘24, attend all the more to the trades you’re making with your precious time. Notice more than ever the thoughts you are thinking.
Are they constructive or destructive?
No matter the behavior of others, our response ability is 100% our responsibility. No longer GO through your difficulties in life, choose to GROW through your difficulties in life - like never before.
