📞🐾🐺Why Answer The Call of the Wild
The memories we leave behind are far more valuable than any material possession
Dear Why Team member,
I hope this week’s message finds you well and excited to hear from The Call of the Wild.
When I was a kid, I was very fortunate to read, ‘The Call of the Wild’ by Jack London. I will never forget it. It’s a call to adventure we would all be well served to read or re-read.
Why Answer The Call of the Wild?
To live more fully, to become more mindful, to become more present - to get outside our habits of thought and habits of living - to welcome more, and fear less, the challenging calls life brings.
Of course, it’s more comfortable to do what we’ve always been doing - but to become more in ‘24, requires us to do something we’ve never done before.
How are you answering The Call of the Wild? Do you find yourself moving toward or away from an uncomfortable challenge? It’s only natural that we would move away from what’s not familiar, but is that always in our best interest?
I find it interesting how throughout history the gold is represented as being beneath the dragon. What dragons are we facing to access more gold in our life - for ourselves and others?
If you are a parent, never forget that your kids are watching you - learning from you - on how to best live their life.
Carl Jung said, ‘There is no greater burden on a child than the un-lived life of a parent’.
It occurred to me early in my time as a father that how I lived my life was either establishing limits or opening up possibilities for my children. When reviewing why the limits, I realized it was from my behaviors rooted in my own limitations and fears. However, I found that I could face more of my fears and move more effectively through resistance when my WHY was more about my children than about me. I’m reminded of the insight from the young son who says, ‘Dad, I can’t hear what you’re saying because your behaviors speak so loudly’.
If you have been reading this blog for a while you know how much adventure has positively impacted my life. I answered the Call of the Wild when I did my first rock face climb back in 2016 and have been fortunate to go on two or three adventures annually ever since - and this is why I am particularly excited to offer you an opportunity to engage with my professional adventure guide Matt Walker. We began informing members this past Sunday via a Substack Note.
Why engage with Matt Walker?
Matt has developed a program specifically to help dads reduce the friction that keeps them from leveraging more adventure in their role as a parent.
Because of my long-standing relationship with Matt, his membership, and his awareness of the purpose of the Why Team, he is offering to Why Team members only - a no cost access to his Peak Fatherhood Virtual Workshop. He has waved the cost for all Why Team Weekly members - your only cost is time - and I assure you, it will be well invested [WHYTEAM is the coupon code]
If you are a father, please attend. If you are not a father, but plan to be one, please attend. If you are married to one, please pass along this invite. The goal is to get this opportunity to as many fathers as possible - to encourage and support them/you in the priceless role as a father.
Consider your own childhood - and how that one specific adventure with your father has paid you a priceless memory dividend - a dividend that even now is urging you to do the same or more for your children. I know for me; I have one particular fishing trip that is emblazoned upon my psyche that is now somewhat mystical in my remembrance.
Let’s face it, it will be the memories we leave behind that will be far more valuable than any material possessions.
If you are a dad, please register and attend - to get insight on specific steps to plan and execute on a memory that will last a lifetime; and at the very least, meet Matt. There is no way to measure how much more incredible my life has become since I first met Matt back in 2015. His friendship, mentorship and leadership has been, and is, absolutely priceless.
To become more in ‘24, more impactful in the lives of those you love, please register to meet, and hear from Matt Walker.
No cost but time and no obligation to climb Kilimanjaro:-)..unless you voluntarily choose to ;-) Frankly, the smallest of adventures are not small at all for our kids. You might even find that the kid in you has been waiting for you to lead the way; breaking through your limits to help others do the same. In a way, living more fully is a responsibility because others are watching.
This is an exciting new addition to our mission - our WHY - to positively impact as many lives as we can before we die. There is no substitute for Adventure Learning - and the relational closeness that results is absolute Rocket Fuel for living our BEST LIFE EVER!!
Hope to see you on the Peak Fatherhood Zoom tomorrow 👍
Here’s the link to register - just put WHYTEAM into the coupon code - your only cost is time.
Make it a great week!
